New music for a new year... except that much of it isn't new, but then again, there isn't any 2013 music yet anyway.
The playlist opens and closes with a pair of tracks from the relatively new album by Sea Wolf called Old World Romance. It's seriously good stuff.
A few others worth pointing out.
The Body Wins by Sarah Jaffe. I'm still not entirely sure how to pronounce Jaffe. Is that a hard E, or is it silent? I don't know. What I do know is: she's released two CDs and a lengthy EP. All of it is outstanding. If you're in Multnomah County, you can find her first CD, Suburban Nature, at the library. Highly recommended!
John K. Samson is the lead singer from the Canadian band The Weakerthans. And, yes, his album includes a song about hockey. It must be a Canadian thing. Do Americans write songs about Football? No. I suppose there have been songs about baseball, but most of them sucked. Don Henley? No, thank you.
Graffiti6 is a band out of London whose debut album from 2010, Colours, was finally released in the U.S. in 2012. If this is any hint of what we can expect from them in years to come... hell yes, I'll be looking forward to hearing more. You can find Colours at the library here too. Sweet!
Also: new Pinback. Yes, please!
