I'm in the mood for some pop... so... pop it is.
I think people make the mistake of allowing themselves to believe they're supposed to only enjoy whatever they're supposed to enjoy - whatever THAT means. Maybe it's alternative music, or indie music, or obscure music, or whatever their friends like. Or whatever their friends don't like. Whatever. I like what sounds good to my ears and that's good enough for me.
Tonight, I'm liking some pop.
Fun (fun., actually) is a band fronted by Nate Ruess, formerly of The Format. The Format put out two albums, one of which was brilliantly catchy alternapop. Clearly, he's going far more pop these days. Here's a sample of his stuff with The Format.
I'm trying to keep an open mind about the new Passion Pit CD 'Gossamer.' I've posted two tracks from that here. And there's new Yeasayer. Their new album comes out later this year and I'm really looking forward to it.
I do believe the dude mostly known as Owl City is done. D.O.N.E., done. He recorded some of the most corny yet earnest not to mention infectiously catchy pop of the past decade. And then he got signed to a major label. On The Wing is from Ocean Eyes, a frigging brilliant pop album. His follow up was trash that reeked of the desperation that comes from needing to produce a hit. It's such a shame when artists lose their way.
Oh, and... The Surgarcubes? Heck yeah. Before Bjork was Bjork! Well, ok, she was still Bjork, but you know what I mean. Sugarcubes predated her solo career.
