It's no secret that I love photography, and even though I have a DSLR, I often shoot with my iPhone. What can I say? It's fun, and it's always in my pocket when I'm out. One of my favorite iPhone apps has been Hipstamatic, by Synthetic. When Synthetic announced a new camera app, I was curious to check it out. And I'm speechless. Absolutely speechless.
Their new app is called the Hipstamatic D Series. The D is short for Disposable. It might as well be short for Deletable, because deleting it is the only thing I could recommend you do with this app.
We all know how apps make money, right? Developers charge a dollar or two for the app itself, and then they try to make more money by charging a dollar or two for extra in-app purchases.
The new Hipstamatic D series is free to download, but the in-app purchases are the sort of scumbaggery that I've never seen in the app store before. This is an app that contains several "cameras," but the ability to use a camera purchased in-app expires. In other words, if you like the Hipstamatic D Series "Dreamy" camera and you use it a lot, you'll HAVE TO BUY IT AGAIN because it expires. Those are some ugly sales tactics.
Check out the prices, as seen in the app:

...Note the words "Starting at"

The app does come with a camera that can take unlimited pics (in rolls of 24), but the filter effect and frame on the free camera are lame. It also comes with a second free camera if you link the app to facebook. And that one is pretty lame as well.
What is it about human nature that makes people more and more greedy as they acquire more and more money? Hipstamatic was the app that made Synthetic rich. How do they reward those of us who bought their apps? They create a wacky price scheme to fool people into paying over and over for stuff they already bought.
