An acoustic playlist this week Parts of it are a little difficult, musically, but hey... that's ok.
If you're not from the Pacific northwest, you probably don't know that Fred Meyer is a chain of grocery/etc stores, the first of which began here in Portland in 1922. These days, Fred Meyer is owned by Kroger. From wikipedia:
"The company was one of the pioneers of one-stop shopping, eventually combining a complete grocery supermarket with a drugstore, clothing store, shoe store, fine jewelers, home decor store, home improvement center, garden center, electronics store, toy store, sporting goods store and more under one roof."
Interestingly, the Fred Meyer at NW20th and Burnside is going to be remodeled (and expanded) in a pretty big way. It looks like the grocery store will be expanded and home goods will be added. More info here (it begins at the bottom of the first page).
As for the song titled Fred Meyer in the above playlist... Glen Phillips was the lead singer of Toad The Wet Sprocket, and his song pretty much speaks for itself.
The Damnwells have a new CD that should be arriving in my mailbox any day now because I bought it over a year ago. I bought it before they even recorded it. How's THAT for a new business model? Well, it works, apparently, thanks to a website called Pledge Music. On Pledge Music, an independent artist can create a page where they sell future music to fund the recording of said music. $12 last year bought me a copy of the new Damnwells CD when it was finished. I got an email last week telling me that my copy of the album is in the mail. Sweet!
.Speaking of sweet... Sweet Marie is an older Damnwells track I've always liked.
Ooh! I want to hear how the new Damnwells album is. I would also like to get hold of Glen Phillips' stuff at some point. One of my friends has been looking for him.::::: | March 7, 2011 9:01 PM
