Today's playlist began with Middle Cyclone by Neko Case.
"I can't give up acting tough
It's all that i'm made of
Can't scrape together quite enough
To ride the bus to the outskirts of the fact that i need love"
God, I love a dark piece of music. I don't really have a dark personality though, so plenty of optimism crept into this playlist despite my initial intentions. Then again, the darkest song in the playlist ends with optimism... so... maybe optimism was inevitable.
That song would be Stranger by Noah And The Whale, which opens with the line "Last night I slept with a stranger for the first time since you've gone. Regretfully, lying naked, I reflect on what I've done." But in the end, even that finds a ray of hope: "You know in a year, it's gonna be better. You know in a year, I'm gonna be happy."
There are a few relatively obscure gems in here. Hank Dogs, Alexi Murdoch and JBM, among others. I especially highly recommend you check out Angus & Julia Stone. They're a brother and sister duo out of Australia, and they're fantastic.
I looooove "Middle Cyclone." I put it on the mix CD I recently made for a couple friends.::::: | September 14, 2010 9:58 PM
