"The theme of this party is the industrial age, and you came in dressed like a train wreck." That's a great line from "The Weekenders" by The Hold Steady. It's track three in this week's playlist which begins and ends with tracks by Sarah Jaffe. You've probably never heard of her, and that's a shame because she is fantastic.

The theme of this playlist is twang. Give it a listen. You'll get it.

Why does your sweetheart stutter?
Why are your hands so cold?
Why do you sound just like your mother?
I turned around and we got old.
- Ron Hawkins

The latest CD by Ron Hawkins is called Ten Kinds Of Lonely. I was surprised to see the disk labelled as Country, but when I gave it a listen I realized he's had a flair for roots rock all along, which explains why his new CD just sounds like... well... it sounds like a Ron Hawkins album. In a good way, of course.

Thank you so much for your playlists. I've gotten so much listening pleasure out of them and been introduced to a lot of music I would have missed. I'd totally send you a cute, nice, single female friend if I had any in Portland. :-)
