I will always think back on my college roommate as having been a saint. During the four years we lived together, I can only think of one time I really drove him crazy. It was the fall of 1993. I had a copy of the album August And Everything After by Counting Crows. They were complete unknowns at the time. It would be another six months before the song Mr Jones became a radio hit. During those six months, I beat that album to death, no doubt torturing my roommate in the process.
The day I truly drove him over the edge was when I had the song Raining In Baltimore on repeat. It played for maybe a half hour. It was a bleak, rainy day in late autumn, and... well... I can't say I blame the guy for making me shut the stereo off.
This week's playlist is based on the piano. It started with a track from Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton. Emily Haines is better known as the lead singer from the band Metric; a band that sounds nothing like the song of hers I've posted in the playlist. I highly recommend checking out more of her solo stuff. Well, I guess I should call it her non-Metric stuff, although Metric's album Fantasies was phenomenal... but I digress. If you subscribe to emusic, you can find more by Emily Haines here and here, plus her Metric albums are here.
