Ten songs for ten years, plus one more for one more.
I would list Death Cab For Cutie's Transatlanticism as the album of the decade. Yes, I believe it is that good, and it will only get better with time. Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot would come in a close second. Radiohead's In Rainbows would be in the top five.
Really, I'd recommend checking out the CDs for every song listed above if you haven't heard them all. Musically, I think this was an excellent decade. I wonder what the next will be like.
By the way... I listed Owl City under 2010 because, although that album came out in '09 (digitally in July and on CD in September), I really think it's just getting started. The album is called "Ocean Eyes" and much of it is brilliant, even if also overly earnest and nearly sickeningly sweet.
So tell me darling,
do you wish we'd fall in love?
All the time.
Time together isn't ever quite enough / When you and I are alone, I've never felt so at home / What will it take to make or break this hint of love? / We need time, only time
When we're apart whatever are you thinking of? / If this is what I call home, why does it feel so alone? / So tell me darling, do you wish we'd fall in love? / All the time, all the time
Owl City is really a pseudonym for a guy named Adam Young. He's only just getting started.
