I'll Feel Better When The Winter's Gone
Phoenix is one of the many bands that has so much potential, yet most haven't heard of. They were the musical guest on SNL this past weekend, which I'm sure will be great exposure for their upcoming album, but their performance did nothing for me.
The show is called Saturday Night Live. If you're going to be the musical guest, shouldn't you perform live? I think you should. I think Phoenix didn't. Maybe I'm wrong, but to me, they sounded pre-recorded. Why bother pretending to rock out on stage if the performance is canned? Roll a frigging video instead. Sheesh.
In that sense, the performance was a bummer, but the song was great. It's the sort of infectious alterna-pop Phoenix excels at. I'm definitely looking forward to their new album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, which will be released on May 25th. Hey, that's the day after my birthday!
One of the songs they sort-of played on SNL last night is Lisztomania. It's track #2 in this week's playlist below.
Liszto
04/06/09 - 04/12/09
- November Was White, December Was Grey | Say Hi
- Lisztomania | Phoenix
- Leveling | Rob Crow
- Casanova, Baby! | The Gaslight Anthem
- Lions of the Kalahari | Sam Roberts
- Ghost Under Rocks | Ra Ra Riot
- Anyone Who's Anyone | Fleet Foxes
- Sing, Theresa Says | Greg Laswell
- Drinking Wine, Talking Art | Kids These Days
- Relief | Cold War Kids
- Backwards Walk | Frightened Rabbit
Yeah yeah, another Frightened Rabbit track this week. Their 2008 album, The Midnight Organ Fight, is without a doubt one of the best albums from last year.
P.S. Don't be fooled by this weekend's sunshine. We've still got a way to go before Spring is really here (...sigh...)
