And You May Tell Yourself "This Is Not My Beautiful Wife!"
The theme of this week's Jalpuna Radio playlist may make it a difficult one to listen to, but it might be one of the more interesting playlists for the same reason: it's a collection of songs that are more about what is spoken rather than what is sung.
Same As It Ever Was
01/12/09 - 01/18/09
- That's Me Trying | William Shatner
- Are You Lookin' At Me? | Colin Hay
- Butterflies | Toad The Wet Sprocket
- Once In A Lifetime | Talking Heads
- Lullaby | Shawn Mullins
- Earthless | Raine Maida
- Belong | R.E.M.
- Every Name Is My Name | Matthew Good
- I'm Open | Pearl Jam
- Somewhere Down The Crazy River | Robbie Robertson
- My Heart Is a Flower | King Missile
- It's Not What You Know | New Fast Automatic Daffodils
- It Hasn't Happened Yet | William Shatner
- I Am The Greatest | a House
The playlist more or less opens and closes with a pair of tracks from William Shatner's "Has Been" album, plus a final track from a House, whose I Am The Greatest album is one of my all time favorites. Truly a lost gem from the 90s.
Also noteworthy is a new one by Colin Hay, talking about his life as a musician, at one point referencing his time with the band Men At Work.
Oh... and the title to this post and playlist are from Once In A Lifetime by Talking Heads.
