I fear sometimes that we are drifting too far.
Left and right.
Right and wrong.
Rich and poor.
Love and hate.
Are you with me or are you against me?
Are you the problem or are you the solution?
Are you to thank or are you to blame?
Are you the baby or are you the bathwater?
...Has the divide ever been wider?
What I find most perplexing about today's polarization are the paradoxes we're creating along with it.
Think about it: In all of human history, we have never been closer together than we are today. The world has become a smaller place thanks to our airplanes, satellites, cell phones and internet. We develop more and more advanced technology to bring ourselves closer together.
And then what do we do? We create wedge issues and trivialities to push each other apart.
It's absurd, really.
Corny as it may sound, I'd rather share a smile that doesn't require someone else to frown - so here's a smile that anyone can enjoy. It comes with no right, no wrong. No left, no right. No liberal, no conservative... and absolutely no bananas. Instead, it's just a silly grin to share.
Accidentally stumbling onto this sort of thing on youtube makes my day. Jim Hensen was a genius.
