I've been in denial.
I understand that summer weather is coming, and I realize temps in the 90s are inescapable from time to time, even in Portland, but I've been holding on to hope that this summer would be cool in comparison to previous summers. And, sure enough, we've seen plenty of days through June with highs only in the 60s. And rain! Rain, rain, glorious rain.
I've loved it!
I know I'm in the minority here. Most people tolerate the rain all winter long, knowing that a sunny summer will eventually arrive as their reward. But me? I love autumn and dread the summer weather.
Well, the reality of summer is expected to kick in this week as our beloved PDX gets tossed in the oven.
Here's what the TV weathermen are saying. (ooh, that's sexist Rob! They're weatherpeople... weatherpersons) Fuck that. Most of them are weatherfrauds...
OK, to be fair, I only bitch because I'm shooting the messengers.
...anyway.... they're saying that by mid-week, we're headed into the 90s.
They were initially predicting the apocalypse by Thursday, but have since been backing off their triple digit high temp predictions a little more each day as the heatwave gets closer. Still, mid 90s is hot, Hot HOT!
And that bring me to this week's playlist. We're headed into the 90s, listed chronologically (except for the last track... take a look at the list. You'll get it), starting with one of my favorites from 1990.
Ooh, what a fun record the New Radicals put out back in 1998. I haven't listened to that one in a while. Hey! Whoa... Hey! Whoa... Hey!
Those fuckers! I don't feel bad at all about calling them weathewrfrauds now.
I posted the above last night. When I woke up this morning and took a look at the forecast, I saw that they've backed even further off of their predictions for record high weather this week. I remember hearing talk of Portland "shattering" all time high temperatures by Thursday. Now, some of them aren't even predicting 90s at all. Don't they know I've posted a 90s playlist this week? DON'T THEY?!?!
I'm still holding out hope for a return to the 60s and 70s (temperature wise, that is. I definitely won't have a decade playlist for that)
