Voluntarily Demoted To Assistant D.O.F.
Scot and I have been friends since the late 90s.
When I visited him in Salt Lake, he appointed himself Director Of Fun, leading me on a day's worth of fun activities such as miniature golf and go carts.
This past weekend, he flew into Portland to visit me for a few days.
I appointed myself Director Of Fun this time, and we began our fun with a walk to Mill Ends Park.

"Oh god. I think this is it."
"You think this is WHAT Rob?"
"...Mill Ends Park. I think it's under this construction barrel thing."

Mill Ends Park is the world's smallest park. At its widest point, the park is twenty-four inches across. It's basically a hole that was dug in 1948 for a light pole at what was then the intersection of SW Front and Taylor.
As fun as a construction barrel may be, it's not worthy of Director Of Fun status, so I voluntarily demoted myself to Assistant Director Of Fun and let my friend Jennea take over the next day.
That was a good call.

The three of us began Sunday with a tour of the submarine on the east bank of the Willamette river at OMSI.

Despite the not-so-fun looks on my super-fun friends' faces, the sub tour was quite fun.

Next stop: the Bridgeport Brewpub. Beer is fun. After that, a trip to the Chinese Gardens in Old Town, followed by arcade games at Ground Kontrol, and we wrapped up the day at the Oaks Park roller skating rink.

Jennea's idea for roller skating turned out to be sheer genius.

The rink at Oaks Park has a nice old hardwood floor, and on Sunday nights, the music is an organist rather than a DJ.
I hadn't been roller skating since I was a kid, and I'd completely forgotten how much fun it can be.
