I think dating would be a lot easier if we had a better way of meeting people. They say that most people meet dates through work or friends, but those ways don't work for everyone.
An afternoon at the Humane Society a few months ago made me wonder if there's a better way.
I was there with a friend to help her pick a new cat. She wanted an adult cat, since more people tend to want kittens. I thought that was sweet.
Attached to each cage was a sign with a description of the cat inside.
One in particular stood out. His name was Captain Bluebeard, and his sign said:
"The Captain is affectionate and social, giving headbutts to show his appreciation for being loved. Being enthusiastic, he would be an ideal companion."
I thought - Holy crap! That's me! ...minus the headbutts and cool title, of course.
"He is energetic and playful..."
"...enjoys affection and attention as well as some quiet downtime..."
"...and has had all of his shots"
"Get to know him and you'll fall in love today!"
Ah-ha. And that's where The Captain's method of finding love would fail me.
I'm not looking to rush into everything all at once. I prefer the casual approach. You know... going on a first date, and then a second, and so on... getting to know someone - really enjoying ourselves in the process. I guess The Captain is more of a Vegas Shotgun Wedding kind of guy.
After I helped my friend choose a really sweet cat named Blossom, I noticed that The Captain was headed home with two women. (TWO?!? Duuuude!)
I was really happy for him, and a little envious too, quite frankly. Oh, who am I kidding. The whole Polygamy thing would be be too complicated for me.
Still... I can't help thinking I should have asked The Captain if I could have his sign now that he no longer needed it.
FWIW, I'd adopt you, Rob :)
I almost called you on Sunday to see if you wanted to go to the Japanese Gardens with me, but I was too shy -- oh well!
Yay for your friend who adopted an adult kitty from the Humane Society!::::: | October 23, 2006 4:10 PM
Can I have the sign when you're through with it?::::: | October 26, 2006 8:03 PM
Me! (as in, ME! Rob) said:
I never did ask for the sign. Sorry about that.::::: | October 26, 2006 8:48 PM
