One of the problems that comes with having a website is people stealing your images.
It's one thing to swipe someone's pics and post them on your own site... but it's another to just frigging hotlink them so that every time a visitor comes to your site, pics are loaded from someone else's server.
That's not just stealing images - it's stealing bandwidth.
Initially, I tried to ask a few people not to steal my bandwidth - but as the years passed, it became obvious that a better solution was needed.
Now, when someone hotlinks an image, my server serves up another instead.
The image I made is choppy looking because it's as small - bits & bytes wise - as I could make it. Still, it gets the job done.
Got a site? Protect your stuff via htaccess.
heh! I had the same problem for a while and my Internet Guru fixed it so a big ugly block shows up telling people that the person hotlinked images without permission... I want to use your text though cause it's funnier!!
PS - My Thingie will be updated soon, though I still want to get my own URL -- Just FYI :)::::: | March 31, 2006 2:49 PM
