The New Loft - Before

Yes, I really am moving across the street - from the lofts above the new downtown Safeway to the Mosaic lofts across the street. In fact, I can see my new loft from where I sit as I type this in my soon-to-be old-loft. Hopefully the shots below clearly show why I'm so excited to be moving.

First, a look at the building itself.

The building with the green and black tinted glass and orange trim is called The Mosaic. The building is as unique on the inside as it is on the out. It feels like a giant piece of modern art.

Walking through my front door, the first thing you see is the part of the loft that extends over the sidewalk below. The glassed-in area will most likely be my living room. And of course, you see my view of the apartment building across the street. Luckily, there's a lot more to my view than that!

Turning to the right, you see the area that'll probably be my office. Don't let the dimensions fool you. In pictures, the high ceiling makes the space look much smaller than it is.

The sliding glass door seen off to the left (below) is referred to as a "pocket balcony." It's really more of a wall that slides open, with a funky metal gate that serves as a railing. Note the distance from the top of the sliding glass door to the ceiling. That helps to give a sense of perspective - hopefully!

Turning around for a better view of the living room with its three walls of glass (below). The fireplace is gas, and it serves as the heating system for the loft. A fireplace with a thermostat and a remote control! How cool...

Turning further left to see the kitchen tucked in a corner.

...a failed attempt at taking a picture of the kitchen itself. Ahh well. I enjoy the reddish cupboard doors. I believe the weird orange-ish strip of trim around the cupboards and on the face of the drawers is copper.

Another view so you can see the windows that make up one wall of the kitchen. There's a breakfast-bar built in up against the window. Seems odd, but it's a really cool idea and a fun place to eat - not that I've eaten there yet. Still, it's a superb use of what would otherwise be wasted space.

Turning left again to see the entryway and bathroom on the right. The bathroom has a really nice tiled tub and a full size washer/dryer. Also, the closet you see off to the left isn't built into the wall. It's on wheels and can be moved anywhere. (and it certainly will be!)

Further left... you get the idea

Further left takes us back to where we started.

And speaking of rooms that are difficult to photograph - here's the bathroom.

Now it's time for a few shots of the view.... Standing in my living room, looking down Columbia... note the weird colors because we're looking through a window that's tinted green.

Hello Safeway! (this shot was taken out of the pocket-balcony looking into Safeway's produce department)

...looking into the window at the end of the hallway in the building I'm moving out of.

There's a lot that can be seen out of my windows.

I can see both sets of streetcar tracks, going up tenth and eleventh avenues, plus the Safeway, the odd weather light downtown, the top of Koin Tower, a great view of Wells Fargo Tower, part of Fox Tower, and a straight shot down Columbia Street.

The movers arrive tomorrow!

I can't wait!
