::: Warning: Blogspeak And Technobabble Follows :::
Usually, my best ideas come to me while I'm in the shower. Damn that soapy lather! Damn! Damn! More often than not, I forget the idea by the time I'm done, dried and dressed.
But not yesterday.
Yesterday, I had two ideas - which I promptly jotted down (after drying off of course). Now that I've got a minute, I thought I'd try them out.
The first was a way for the main page of my radio blog to look less stagnant. I only post over there once or twice a month, so I wanted a way to keep the page changing without *ME* needing to constantly change it. The random text cgi plug-in I'm already using on this page to select photos for behind the navigation links was the answer. (you HAVE scrolled over those, haven't you? They link to pages that are kind of hidden because they're not essential to what this site is about... they're like bonus content I suppose) I could ramble about this for a while, but it'd be terribly boring. Click here to see it in action! (if there's a current post, the random post will appear further down the page) Don't forget to re-load the page to get a new blog entry. If you're trying to do something similar on your site and want more info, email me.
The second idea was a way to post pictures here. I wanted the pictures to be able to touch the gray border because I like how it looks, because I can be a freak about design, and because I'm already limiting the size a photo can be due to the width of this column.
My real goal is to set up a navigation-pictures category to explain some of those pics from the top of the page... like that shot I just posted, which I took it in a helicopter in 2001... or this shot:
That's a picture of a flower that committed suicide on my dining room table. I wrote about it here. It's just an interesting shot that I enjoy due to the vibrant colors. The blue thing is a bottle of Riesling I bought because I thought it could make a cool vase.
Anyway - I'm writing about this as a test - to see if the pics show up the way I want them to, and to test a few other things. Blah blah - if it looks good, it worked :)
This is another case of an idea being so simple that I can't believe I didn't do it sooner. I changed my template to apply a div to stylize text rather than assigning a class to the table's td. Thus, it's easy to close the div, pop in a picture, and then open a new div to continue the styled text.
Blah blah blah. Like I said, this post is a test... but if you want to know more, email me.
And with that, one more fun pic, and I'm done. Here's a shot I enjoy:
That's a shot from the skybridge of Pioneer Square mall downtown. I liked the reflection of the square lights in the window along with the view of the mannequins against a blue backdrop below.
When it comes to taking pictures, colors and shapes tend to catch my attention more than the actual 'thing' I'm looking at. I guess I'm more into whether or not something is visually interesting rather than caring what the thing I'm taking a picture of is.
...not that I'm a photographer... I just snap 'em when I see 'em.
Oh how I dream of a better camera someday though...
I keep cliffdweller refreshing constantly by showing what's playing in iTunes, along with album covers when they are available... ;)::::: | February 4, 2005 8:35 AM
