My Common Sense "...Has Left The Building"

I am officially an idiot. I've always suspected this, but tonight I got confirmation.

I watched the final episode of Fraiser. Only a complete and certifiable idiot would do such a thing... and I did. In FACT, I made an effort to do so!

WHY?!?!?!? I guess I wanted to see him get the girl - so to speak. I wanted to see Fraiser Crane find the love of his life and live happily ever after - as if that might imply that I will someday find the love of my life and live happily ever after. Ridiculous. But what can I say? I'm a sap.

The final episode ended in such a subtle way that I have to wonder what percentage of the audience even caught it... especially when you consider that anyone watching was an idiot in the first place. Myself included of course.

The gist of the episode is that Fraiser is on an airplane, sitting next to another psychiatrist, and they pass the time as he tells her his story - which becomes the rest of the episode, as follows:

The woman he fell in love with moved back to Chicago. She leaves ten minutes into the final episode. The next 50 minutes pass as we watch Niles and Daphne have their first child, and his father Martin marries the office skank from Just Shoot Me. Fraiser gets offered a job in San Francisco, and he decides to take it. The episode ends where it began - in the airplane.

The plane lands as he finishes telling this story to the psychiatrist he's sitting next to. The pilot comes on over the cheap-ass airplane overhead speakers [why MUST those things suck SO badly?] and says: "ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Chicago." Ahh, he didn't go to the job in San Fran, he went after the girl...

So then, what's the point of my rambling tonight? I wanted a cheezy boy-gets-the-girl ending, and I didn't get one. This poor sap's been single for the majority of the show's 11 year run, and in the end, he might still be alone. Oh sure, it's terribly romantic that he went after the woman he was in love with... but that's REALLY a "boy-MIGHT-get-girl" scenario, and as I've already said - that's not what I was looking for.

Not that anyone asked.

Goodnight Seattle... We love you. But who loves us? [I wanted to see the boy get the girl dammit]

Hehe. I've never been a regular watcher of the show, but knew that I would inevitably end up getting suckered into the finale so I drank too much wine and fell asleep by 9 PM (I'm all class, like you didn't know). Glad I didn't miss much.
